MARTIN
FLOOK was joint chairman of Bristol Rovers in 1985 along with a comedy
TV character whose recent return has coincided with another successful
era for the Gas. It may be one of the great understatements ever
in Rovers' history to say that his time at the helm was not a massive
success. He resigned at the beginning of March 1986 and was followed
a couple of weeks later by his mate the microwave magnate. A month
afterwards Rovers played their last ever game at Eastville, with
Gasheads not knowing where (or if) they would be playing the next
season. Luckily, Denis Dunford picked up the pieces.
For these reasons, and also the fact that his
surname is suitably close to another word beginning with F which
sits nicely in front of "off", we give this man the tribute
we feel he deserves by dedicating a weekly, monthly or maybe annual
(in short, we'll update it when we've got a suitable candidate) award
for disservices to Bristol Rovers or football in general …
