Once upon a time I used to get up on a Sunday morning, do all
that Sunday breakfast stuff, get in a mountain of papers and settle
down on the sofa to watch Rovers' goals on Sky Sports 'Goals on Sunday'.
These days I do the same things but when it comes to 'Goals on
Sunday' not only do I have to listen to hours of chat about Premiership
goals/sendings off/controversial moments with often worse-for-wear
guests but, after all of that, there are no goals.
Yeah, I know the joke: Rovers don't score goals these days (not
so much a joke but a fact really) but it's not just our goals. Sometimes
the whole of Division Three has vanished into a satellite-dish shaped
black hole. Sometimes Division Two is nowhere to be seen either.
On occasions even Premiership-Two wannabes Division One are pared
down to just one or two goals. And then when concessions are made
and Division Three is shown more often than not only one or two games
are featured.
For people like me without access to HTV and Jed Pitman (the irony
being that a Sky dish rather than a cable connection would allow
me to access the regional broadcasts) 'Goals on Sunday' is the best
time to see how great (or how terrible) Rovers goals for and against
were the previous day. Yes, I know there's 'Nationwide League Extra'
on at some ridiculous time on a Monday night/Tuesday morning but
I forget and 'Goals on Sunday' is so much easier - or it would be
if they showed our goals - and surely Sky have some sort of an obligation
to us Nationwide fans seeing as they have the rights to our games?
We may not be as trendy as the Premiership, we may not have the glamour
or glitz but get this Sky: there are actually a lot of us - 10,268,689
have watched Nationwide League games so far this season compared
with 8,626,079 in the Premiership - and we want our goals back.
So, rant over, what do we do? It may not help at all but how about
a petition? The link below takes you to one set up online - sign
it and help campaign to get the Nationwide League equal rights on
Sky TV.
Petition
Oh, and don't forget to tell your Nationwide mates to sign it too.
