THE new North Stand development
appeared in Bristol City Council’s weekly list of planning
applications for the week commencing 15 th November. The applicant
was listed as Bristol Rovers Football Club, “c/o The Miller
Partnership – Duncan Maclean, 19 Royal Crescent, Glasgow G3
7SX”.
The Miller Partnership is a Glasgow-based firm
of chartered architects and interior designers that specialises
amongst other things in sports stadia.
Duncan Maclean is the partner in the Miller Partnership
principally responsible for the delivery of the many stadium projects
that the company has carried out. According to their website, although
he has wide construction experience gleaned over some 25 years
as an architect, “for the last 15 years he has immersed himself
in stadium architecture”. He has spoken widely and given
several papers on stadium design and served as a member of the
Football Stadium Advisory Council, the Football Stadia Design Committee
and the Working Group reviewing the Green Guide.
The Miller Partnership clearly have extensive
experience in this field and claim on their website that they are
at the forefront of stadium design in the UK. And judging by their
client list it’s obvious that we haven’t just signed
up with some two bob bit company. Those worried that Cowlin would
be sticking it up with Colin Williams supplying the glass, Mike
Turl doing the painting and Boycey fitting it out with Snackbox
machines needn’t worry. The Miller Partnership have led on
many of the new stadia that been been springing up around the country
in recent years, including Leicester, Middlesborough, Southampton,
Derby, Sunderland, Hull, Darlington and Stoke.

Miller Partnership Website.
