Some weeks ago the club announced
some exciting plans for the full-scale redevelopment of the Mem.
Rather than the vague “back of a postage stamp” schemes
that have been all too common in the past, these plans seemed to
capture the imagination of Gasheads by showing both a good degree
of innovation (e.g., involving accommodation for key workers) and,
more importantly, looking as though they could be self-funding.
Given the nature of the plans and the real prospects for progress
this time, you would have expected there to be a very healthy level
of interest in an exhibition showing the proposed new stadium design
and giving fans a chance to both discuss the scheme with representatives
of the football club, the architects and the planning team and also
to input their ideas. Given the club’s ongoing need for non-matchday
revenues, it would also represent a very good money earner.
But how many people actually know that this key
event is taking place tonight (December 5th) and again on Wednesday
7th December? There’s
been precious little talk of it on the official forum and no mention
(from what we can tell) either in the local press or on the official
website. That is a real shame.
So if you’re interested in going along and finding out more
about the new plans then get yourself along either tonight or Wednesday.
It’s taking place in the annexe to the Main Bar (Memorial Room)
in the Club House at the North End of the Stadium. The evenings will
run from 6.30pm to 8pm.
