THE planning process rolls on
and this week some new documents have been added to the Memorial
Ground application the Council website.
The first of these is a “Planning Support Statement”,
which is basically a document that puts the application in context
with regard to the club, its history and its future and talks through
the processes and strategies that have been followed with regard
to the application. We imagine that the document has been submitted
by The Miller Partnership (the architects being used by the club)
but it’s fair to say that the club would have done well to
proof it first. Apart from some poor grammar, the following comment,
within a section entitled “The Club and its home” contains
a rather basic inaccuracy at the start of the second paragraph:
“Between the early 1890’s and 1980,
Eastville Stadium was their home, latterly under a lease arrangement.
Following a serious fire at the ground in 1980, the Club entered
a brief ground share arrangements at Ashton Gate.
The Club returned to Eastville in 1982 for four seasons before
entering into a ground
share arrangement with Bath City Football Club at Twerton Park.”
Returned to Eastville in 1982? That’s news to us!
The second document is a transport assessment. This is a detailed
document which talks through the impact and projected future impact
of traffic around the Memorial Stadium. This is an important area,
not least because many local residents have concerns over parking
and will want reassurances from the Council that any developments
will not have a negative impact upon them.
